Simple Hex: A Two-Player Connection Game
Simple Hex is a captivating two-player connection game with straightforward rules, making it easy to learn but challenging to master. Players choose red or blue and take turns coloring empty cells on the game board. The objective? Create a connected path of your colored cells linking opposite sides of the board. The first player to complete this connection wins.
The game offers several modes: Play with AI (offering easy, medium, and hard difficulty levels, with the AI playing first or second), Play with a Friend (using separate devices), and Pass & Play (for local multiplayer).
Need to undo a move? An undo button is available (currently not in AI mode).
Strategic Advantage and Steal Move:
Because the first player in Hex has a significant advantage, a "Steal Move" option is provided. The second player can switch places with the first player after the first move, forcing the initial player to make a less decisive opening move. This option is also unavailable in AI mode.
Board Sizes:
Three board sizes are offered (7x7, 9x9, and 11x11) to allow players to gradually increase the game's complexity.
AI Improvements:
The AI in this version uses a "stable" unbounded best-first minimax game technique. Thanks to interns Saatvik Inampudi and Shoheb Shaik for their contributions to performance improvements. For more details on the AI algorithm, contact the developer at https://www.linkedin.com/in/nsvemuri/.
What's New in Version 0.45 (Last Updated Dec 18, 2024):
- The easy AI level is now truly easy, and the medium level has been made slightly easier. More information about the game Hex can be found at: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hex_(board_game)
