Discover the Art of Dual Wielding in Elden Ring

Mastering Two-Handed Weaponry in Elden Ring: A Comprehensive Guide
This guide delves into the mechanics and strategic advantages of wielding weapons two-handed in Elden Ring. We'll cover how to execute the technique, the benefits it offers, potential drawbacks, and the ideal weapons for this fighting style.
How to Two-Hand Weapons
The default controls for two-handing weapons are: E (PC), Triangle (PlayStation), or Y (Xbox). Press this button, then your attack button to utilize your chosen weapon (left or right hand). Remember to check your control scheme if you've customized it. This method also works while mounted, but note that you must two-hand the weapon before mounting for it to be effective on horseback.
Why Two-Hand?
Two-handing significantly boosts your damage output. Your Strength stat receives a 50% increase, making Strength-scaling weapons considerably more potent. This also alters the moveset, sometimes even changing damage type depending on the weapon. Furthermore, it unlocks access to the weapon's Ash of War, bypassing any limitations imposed by a shield.
Drawbacks of Two-Handing
While beneficial for Strength builds, two-handing has limitations. The altered attack patterns require adaptation, and the loss of a shield leaves you more vulnerable. Consider your build and playstyle; two-handing might not suit Dexterity-focused builds.
Optimal Weapons for Two-Handing
Generally, large Strength-scaling weapons excel when wielded two-handed. Greatswords, Colossal Swords, Great Hammers, and Colossal Weapons are all excellent choices. The Two-Handed Sword Talisman (available in Shadow of the Erdtree) further enhances damage with two-handed swords. Specific recommendations include the Greatsword, Zweihander, Fire Knight's Greatsword, and the Giant-Crusher for non-sword options.
Elden Ring is available on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.
