PSN Accounts for Playstation's PC Ports No Longer Required (For Some Games)

Sony's PlayStation Network (PSN) Account Policy Shift for PC Game Ports
Sony has revised its PSN account requirements for select PlayStation 5 games ported to PC, offering both flexibility and incentives. This change, effective after the January 30, 2025 release of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 on PC, eliminates the PSN login mandate for several titles.
PSN Accounts Now Optional for Select PC Ports
Games impacted by this policy shift include Marvel's Spider-Man 2, God of War Ragnarök, Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, and the upcoming PC release of The Last of Us Part II Remastered (April 2025). However, it's important to note that titles like Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut and Until Dawn will continue to require PSN accounts.
Incentives for Maintaining PSN Logins
While PSN accounts are no longer mandatory, Sony is rewarding players who choose to log in with their PSN accounts. Benefits include trophy support, friend management, and exclusive in-game bonuses:
- Marvel's Spider-Man 2: Early unlock of the Spider-Man 2099 Black Suit and the Miles Morales 2099 Suit.
- God of War Ragnarök: Access to the Armor of the Black Bear set and a resource bundle (500 Hacksilver and 250 XP).
- The Last of Us Part II Remastered: 50 bonus points, unlocking extra features and Ellie's Jordan's Jacket skin.
- Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered: Access to the Nora Valiant outfit.
Sony indicates that further incentives may be added in the future.
Addressing Past Backlash
This policy change follows criticism regarding previous PSN account requirements for PC ports, particularly Helldivers 2 and God of War Ragnarök. The limited geographical availability of PSN (approximately 70+ countries) presented significant barriers for players in unsupported regions. The previous mandatory PSN linking also raised concerns about data privacy and security. This revised approach appears to be a response to player feedback and a move towards greater accessibility and player choice.
